Ocean in motion

Barneo is the world's northernmost research camp and is usually located less than 100 km from the geographic North Pole. It has everything: hot food, a landing strip, vital resources. The position of Barneo is not stable due to ice drift. Barneo floats on the Arctic Ocean, so to speak. A lot can happen there. The surface ice can break apart, as we experienced in 2007 while preparing for our trip to the North Pole. The tents had to be moved quickly, and the landing strip had to be reconstructed. No cause for panic for the (Russian) operators of the station. They are well accustomed to the unpredictability of the Arctic Ocean.
